From the Pastor — New Things Are in the Air

Categories: (Email) Monthly, Kingswood Connection,Families

With the month of September, we at Kingswood will be stepping it up another notch as our fall programing steps into high gear.  Yes, I know the Labor Day Weekend typically puts a false start into the fall, but that is O.K. We are going to make up for the holiday weekend! I hope you will come and experience what’s new at Kingswood.

On Wednesday, September 5, we start a new year of our Wednesday Night Bridge series, which includes a great meal at 5:30, followed by John Wesley Choir, children’s programing, youth programing, adult study, and bell choir beginning at 6:30.

Sunday, September 9, is Jubilee Sunday. We will celebrate something that happened fifty years ago in a New Way. It is hard to believe that way back on September 8, 1968, we had our first worship service at Chesnut Elementary School (also celebrating its 50th anniversary this year). Our celebration will begin with a reception at 9:45, worship at a special time — 10:30, followed by a delicious catered lunch. We will celebrate our past, but more importantly we will be anticipating our future.

New and Updated Things. When you come back to Kingswood, there are some things we are sure you will notice. Over the summer, we have been hard at work doing a partial face lift.  Our parking lot was sealed and restriped, and it really looks great. New carpet and refinished pews highlight the sanctuary.

New Responsibilities. During this year of our Jubilee, two of our staff have new and additional responsibilities here at Kingswood. Dondra Davis finished seminary, and she was officially appointed to full-time ministry here at Kingswood as an Associate Pastor. She will continue to focus on our Youth, and she is also taking on responsibilities within congregational care. Jessica Spencer has officially transitioned from her prior role teaching The Kingswood School to become our Director of Family and Children Ministries, with additional duties coming over the next few months in evangelism.

New Sunday Schedule / New Energy.  Over the past month we have changed our Sunday School Schedule, which allows our members to make it to the Sanctuary by 10:50. This change has brought more energy to worship as members and guests are taking advantage of this time to meet and greet one another.  Our periodic lemonade and cookies under the portico after worship have been great hits, as well.

I hope you will come and be part of the new and changing things at Kingswood.
