2017 Reading Challenge

In 2016, Pastor Charles challenged members of Kingswood to read through the entire Bible in a year. Many individuals in the congregation participated — including quite a few reading the Bible for the first time! In 2017, we build on this momentum with a challenge based on daily devotions and reading.

This year’s challenge has two reading components:

  • Daily devotional readings from My Utmost For His Highest, a classic devotional by Oswald Chambers
  • A new book per month, with spiritual themes

What’s the payoff?

This is a great way to regularly study God’s word with other believers. Those participating also have a chance to win a $100 prize, awarded based on the most number of correct and complete answers.

How do I participate?

Sign up using the instructions below. You’ll get weekly emails with information about the challenge and questions that go along with your reading. Submit your answers to Rev. Charles as you read, and receive his encouragement along your faith journey as you complete the challenge!

Why should I join?

John Wesley, the founder of the United Methodist Church, described several means of grace — ways God works invisibly in His disciples. Among those on our path to devotion are: reading, meditating and studying the scriptures, prayer, and sharing our faith with others. What better way to grow in grace than by studying God’s word and discussing it as we grow in our faith together!

Step 1: Get the Daily Devotional

Our daily devotional will be My Utmost for His Highest, by Oswald Chambers. These daily devotional readings can be emailed to you on a daily basis in either the classic language or modern language or you can use a book.

Do you want it delivered to your email inbox?

  1. Go to utmost.org.
  2. Scroll down to the green area at the bottom of the screen:
  3. Enter your email address, and fill out the short form. Check the first box if you want the Updated, modern language version, or the second box for the Classic, original edition.
