Samuel Conner Stephens
Achieves Eagle Scout Rank

 

Dunwoody, GA.  (December, 2010) - Boy Scout Troop 477, chartered to Kingswood United Methodist Church, is pleased to announce that Samuel Conner Stephens, son of Ruthy and Don Stephens of Dunwoody, has earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Sam completed his Eagle Board of Review on October 10, 2010. Sam is the 97th Eagle Scout from Troop 477 since it was chartered to Kingswood in 1972.

Sam's Eagle Scout Project was to build out a room for a new nursery at Kingswood. The project involved demolition of existing walls, old gas lines, and electrical service, in order to reconstruct a new wall for the new nursery area for the babies at Kingswood Methodist church.

Sam joined Troop 477 in March 2004 and has been an active member participating in many of the Troop’s outdoor activities and service projects. He has held many Troop leadership positions including Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Asst. Patrol Leader, Asst. Senior Patrol Leader, Chronicler (Philmont) and Crew Leader (Northern Tier). Sam has also participated in National Youth Leadership Training.

Sam was proud to have completed three High Adventure treks. He participated in treks at all three of the Boy Scouts of America's premiere high adventure bases, The  Northern Tier, Sea Base, and Philmont Scout Ranch, thereby achieving the "Triple Crown" of boy scouting's high adventure activities.

Sam is a senior at Providence Christian Academy where he has Lettered in , Cross Country, Swimming and Track. He also participated in Alpha Upsilon, a service organization at Providence. He is an active member of Kingswood United Methodist Church and has served on several mission trips including, New Orleans, and Honduras. Sam has been accepted to both North Georgia College & State University and The Citadel and will soon make his decision. Sam hopes to one day serve our country as an officer in the United States Marine Corps.

Boy Scout Troop 477 will join with Sam and his family and the Scouting Community at large, in celebration of his achievement at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor to be held at 3:00 PM, Sunday, January 9, 2010, in the Sanctuary at Kingswood United Methodist Church. A reception will be held immediately following the ceremony in the Fellowship Hall.
