Andrew James Farrey
Achieves Eagle Scout Rank

Dunwoody, GA.  (September 2, 2005)

Boy Scout Troop 477, chartered to Kingswood United Methodist Church, is pleased to announce that Andrew James Farrey has achieved the rank of Eagle Scout on May 15, 2005. He is one of only 66 Eagle Scouts from Troop 477 since it was first chartered in 1972. Only three percent of boys who enter scouting earn this distinctive rank.

Andy’s Eagle Scout Service Project was the design and construction of an outdoor classroom at Chamblee Charter High School, where he is a Senior. The space contains three hand crafted picnic tables along with new landscaping and mulching to enclose and beautify the area. Andy was assisted by other Scouts, CCHS students, and adult leaders in the construction and installation of the tables and plantings.

Andy has been involved in Scouting since he was a six year old Tiger Cub in Windsor, Wisconsin. He joined Pack 494 at Dunwoody Baptist Church in 1995 and crossed over to Troop 477 in 1999 where he has been an active member ever since, earning 26 merit badges. He has participated in numerous troop activities including campouts, hikes, Scouting for Food, community service projects, and summer camps.

Andy has served in numerous leadership positions within the Troop and was selected as a member of scouting’s honor society, the Order of the Arrow. His favorite camping experiences were the High Adventure outings at summer camp.

Andy attends All Saints Catholic Church. He is also active in Chamblee’s Young Life group. Andy plays baseball for CCHS and has played travel baseball for the past five years. At Chamblee HS, he is active in the Beta Club and is a member of the Mock Trial Team and Blue and Gold newspaper staff.. He volunteers regularly at the Soup Kitchen at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. Andy is the son of Nancy and Don Farrey of Dunwoody, and the grandson of the late Ray Farrey and his wife Monica, of Pardeeville, Wisconsin. Andy will be recognized at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor to be held September 8, 2005 at Kingswood Methodist Church.
