Achieves Eagle Scout Rank
|
Dunwoody, GA (November 16, 2006)
Boy Scout Troop 477, chartered to Kingswood United
Methodist Church, recently recognized Tim Newlands for achieving the rank of
Eagle Scout at an Eagle Court of Honor held November 16, 2006. Newlands
became the 70th member of the Troop to be awarded the rank of Eagle Scout
since the Troop was chartered in 1972. Tim completed his Eagle Board of
Review on May 13, 2006. Only 3 percent of boys who enter scouting achieve
this distinctive rank.
Newlands is the son of Maureen and Doug Newlands of Dunwoody. Tim Newlands’
Eagle service project was the designing and construction of a new recycling
area for Kingswood United Methodist Church. Teens and adults from Troop 477,
Dunwoody United Methodist Church, and from St Pius X High School worked
three days excavating the area, building a retaining wall, amending soil,
planting shrubbery and spreading mulch for the recycling area. Participants
spent over 200 hours on the project.
Major contributors to the project were Kingswood United Methodist Church,
Perimeter Bobcat and Skinner Nursery. Tim obtained more than $1000 in
donations for the project.
Tim has served as Patrol Leader and Troop Guide with Troop 477. His favorite
experience in Scouting was backpacking over 50 miles during seven days with
19 other scouts and adults from his Troop at the Double H High Adventure
Base in Datil, NM in 2005.
Tim graduated from St. Pius High School and is attending Kennesaw State
University. He is a member of All Saints Catholic Church. He is active in
the Dunwoody Fencing Club and the racquetball league at Dunwoody Baptist
Church.
