Advent is a time of anticipation in many ways. We look ahead to the fulfillment of prophecies uttered thousands of years ago, the wondrous yet humble birth of the baby Jesus, and his promised second coming in triumph and glory. There is no greater gift than God’s gift of His son, a sweet little child born in a manger, yet destined to be the sacrifice for all the world, and paradoxically, Lord of all.
We invite you to experience the wonder, joy, and anticipation of Advent with us at Kingswood. Here you will find a “personal church in an impersonal world,” where the old stories and songs come alive in our hearts, and good will is shared with everyone. Please join us anytime and every time you can.
Worship and Grow
This year is the 200th anniversary of the debut of “Silent Night, Holy Night.” This hymn has become the best-loved worship moment of many Christians. Something mystical occurs as we light our candles and sing the hope of “all is calm, all is bright” — peace and light for the world. Pastor Charles will preach a sermon series called Calm and Bright to mark the occasion.
Join us for this sermon series during Sunday morning worship services (11:00 and 8:45 am) in December.
Glories Stream: The Joy of Christmas
There’s no better combination that Christmas and children, and who else to help us rediscover and rekindle the season’s joy? Kingswood children, including the John Wesley Choir and students from The Kingswood School lead us in worship on December 9. It’s a great opportunity to worship together.
Service of the Longest Night
Not everyone is up and cheery for the Christmas holidays. In an attempt to be attentive to the needs of our church family, we will create a sacred space for people living through dark times on Wednesday evening, December 19. The “Service of the Longest Night” will be a reflective service, accepting where we really are, and holding on for healing and hope.
Christmas Eve Worship
We will have a family-friendly Christmas Eve candlelight worship service at 6:00 pm on December 24.
- Donate to the special chancel rail offering during communion on Sunday, December 2. All money collected will go toward the two Advent packing projects.
- Purchase gifts for one of our Salvation Army Christmas Angel gifts. These need to be returned to the CLC lobby no later than Wednesday, November 28.
- Purchase toy donations in the bin located in the Welcome Center, for the Malachi’s Storehouse gift shop.
- Volunteer for the Christmas event held at Malachi’s Storehouse to help parents shop for and wrap gifts for their children on Saturday, December 15, 2:00 – 6:00 pm.
- Participate in our Advent packing event on Sunday, December 16, immediately after worship.
You are a part of the family at the Family Christmas Party on Sunday, December 2, from 3:00 – 5:00 pm. The event includes an opportunity to take your child’s photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus, cookie decorating, and a special spot for writing and mailing letters to Santa! (Please register or sign up to volunteer in advance.)
Later in December, dine at our free Wednesday fellowship dinner (advance registration required), and watch an evening of entertainment on Wednesday, December 12, as the John Wesley Choir presents Angels Say What?, with a guest appearance by the Little Angels Choir. Get in the Christmas spirit with a view of Christmas through the eyes of children!
This will be a difficult Christmas for many people in our congregation and community because of illness or the death of someone they love. We can help them through the season by showing how much they’re thought of and loved. Join us Sunday, December 9, from 4:00 – 7:00 pm, as we travel around Dunwoody sharing the joy of Christmas with those who are in special need.
Students in grades 6–12 are invited to our traditional Youth Progressive Dinner for tons of fun! We travel as a group to different homes for appetizers, the main course, and dessert. The highlight of the evening is a white elephant gift exchange; you never know what you might get! RSVP to Rev. Dondra Davis by December 13.
